“collector and museum quality” items from the career of Barbra
Streisand will be offered Saturday June 5th, at a live
charity auction in Los Angeles which will be simultaneously accessible
for on-line bidding around the world. The unique event, to be
produced by Julien Entertainment and held at Astra West in the Pacific
Design Center in West Hollywood, CA, “will feature famous items
tracing the superstar’s fabled career from the early 1960’s to today,”
Darren Julien noted. All proceeds will go to humanitarian and
environmental causes supported by the artist’s philanthropic work
through The Streisand Foundation. Julien stated the June 5th
bidding will follow exhibitions (see attached schedule) in New York,
London and Los Angeles. The offerings may be viewed online starting

The “Her Name is Barbra” auction will include many of her most
memorable costumes spanning her entire career in films, television and
on stage. Beginning with her Academy award winning first appearance
on film in Funny Girl, to her directorial debut with Yentl for which
she won the Golden Globe for best director.
The sale will
include pieces from other films such as; Funny Lady, A Star Is Born,
The Way We Were, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, The Mirror Has
Two Faces, The Owl and The Pussy Cat, What’s Up Doc, For Pete’s Sake,
The Main Event, and Nuts. Many of these pieces are not only iconic
costumes from award winning films, they were also created by world
renowned and award winning costume designers including the exquisite
period pieces designed by Cecil Beaton for On a Clear Day You Can See
Forever, of particular note is the heavily beaded empire waist gown
created for the film (est. $8/10,000). Five time Academy Award
winner Irene Sharaff designed the costumes for both the stage and film
versions of Funny Girl and some of these pieces will be sold including
the Broadway costume worn during Streisand’s performance of “People”
(est. $4/6,000). “It has been a privilege and an honor to work with a
collection of such incomparable depth spanning over 40 years of one of
the most celebrated careers in the entertainment industry,” said
Darren Julien President of Julien Entertainment.
In addition to these
stunning film costumes the sale will include many of Streisand’s early
performance gowns including a dress of her own design that she wore
for an early night club engagement at the Basin Street East in May and
June of 1963, where she was billed with Benny Goodman and received
rave reviews (est. $1/1,500). There are pieces from Streisand’s
acclaimed television specials Color Me Barbra, Barbra Streisand…And
Other Musical Instruments, The Belle of 14th Street and a
special highlight of the sale will be the famous blue sailor dress
from her earliest television special My Name is Barbra which first
aired April 28,
1965 (est. $10/12,000). “There is something in this sale for the
Barbra collector at any level with property for the everyday collector
to the museums of historical significance,” explained Julien.
The sale will showcase important pieces, both costumes and stage props
from Barbra’s more recent critically acclaimed concert tours
“Timeless” and “The Concert” as well as a vast array of designer
fashion pieces worn in both her personal life and to many high profile
events and award shows including the Arnold Scassi designed dress worn
to the New York premier of Funny Girl in 1968 (est. $2/3,000) and the
Arnold Scassi dress Barbra wore to the 1970 Academy awards where she
presented an Oscar to John Wayne, and to the premier of Hello Dolly in
1969 (est. $3/5,000). Of historical note is the gown Streisand
designed for her performance at the Washington Press Correspondents
dinner in May of 1963 where she met President John F. Kennedy (est.
$3/5,000). Rounding out the sale are original production models from
many of Streisand’s films, Barbra’s own copies of original album cover
proofs, and a selection of pieces from Barbra’s personal collection of
vintage costume jewelry with estimates in the range of $80 - $100.
“This all inclusive sale of property from the career of Barbra
