On Saturday 6th March, 2004 - Barbra attended the 2004 Annual Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles, at the Century Plaza Hotel. She was accompanied by her husband James Brolin, son Jason Gould, sister Roslyn Kind, friends Marilyn & Alan Bergman, Donna Karan, long-time manager Marty Erlichman, publicist Dick Guttman.

At about 7pm Barbra walked the press line. She stopped and talked to CNN, Reuters and more. This was the first time that I'd seen Barbra, in person. She looked stunning, about a meter away, wearing a dark purple/burgundy dress, off the shoulders, with necklace and hat (similar to the design she wore at last months pre-globe Party).

Then came the awards... Barbra was firstly introduced by Hilary Clinton by video, who expressed her admiration for Barbra's dedication to Human Rights Issues, and constant efforts to make the world a better place. John Travolta then entered the stage, and gave a speech (comical in part), and expressed his affection and pride for Barbra.

There then followed a video montage of approximately 5 -10 minutes (which was shown on big screens all around the ballroom) and  included rare and unseen footage of past speeches, and performances from fundraisers. Barbra's voice filled the auditorium with her powerful quotes from the past. They showed footage from films ("Was it something I said?" from What's Up Doc (Very funny)... "People are their principles" from The Way We Were... ) it also featured footage from Central Park, The Concert, Timeless. Barbra's performance of Somewhere at the APLA in 1992, it also showed Barbra's version of "The Way We Were" from 2002's Democratic Fundraiser).

Barbra took to the stage, after a helping hand from John... at about 10.30pm. A standing ovation lasted a good few minutes, and Barbra looked humbled and genuinely pleased to be there. "Thank you!" she said, then launched straight into her speech.

Barbra's speech was very pro-democrat in anticipation of the forthcoming elections this year. Her style was very emotive, and her delivery was truly reminiscent of JFK. The audience certainly agreed with her politics! They empathised with her need for change. Her speech lasted about 20-25 minutes - and parts will be shown on News/TV networks all over the world.

Barbra exited the stage after bowing, and waving... James was waiting at the side, and escorted Barbra backstage - Barbra waving over her right shoulder as she exited.

All in all, it was a wonderful night, especially for first time fans - there to support Barbra. Congratulations Barbra on this wonderful honor, and Thank You for your efforts in making this world a better place to live in.
