Roasted chestnuts. The 2005
edition of our seasonal favorite series continues with this 15-song
compilation of cozy chestnuts. Topped off by a never-before-released
sung-in-English version of Gounod’s “Ave Maria” by Barbra Streisand (it’s
been hidden away in the vaults since 1967), Baby features a handpicked
assortment of tracks that range from good-old-days faves (think Satchmo,
Bing, the Chairman and Dino) to newer recordings by Norah Jones, Aimee Mann,
Diana Krall and B.B. King.

BARBRA STREISAND has twice included the Latin prayer "Ave Maria" on
Christmas albums, most recently including the more familiar Franz Schubert
version on 2001's CHRISTMAS MEMORIES. Here, however, the prayer is set to
the music of 19th -century French composer Charles Gounod, which is based on
J.S Bach's first prelude in THE WELL TEMPERED CLAVIER. " Gounod's Ave Maria"
was recorded in both Latin and English for the 1967's A CHRISTMAS ALBUM.
Streisand opted to include the Latin version on the LP, shelving the English
version for 38 years. It makes it's debut on this CD.
