BARBRA STREISAND directs and stars in this powerful and heart-rending musical story, out to buy on DVD on 28 November 2005 for £15.99 (RRP). Yentl (STREISAND) is a young Jewish girl who thirsts for knowledge, a seemingly impossible dream in a society that won’t permit women to study books. Refusing to bow to tradition, she disguises herself as a boy and is accepted by a community of scholars. Here she falls in love with fellow student Avigdor, played by TV’s DEAD LIKE ME’s MANDY PATINKIN, who is himself betrothed to the beautiful Hadass, played by AMY IRVING. When her disapproving parents break off the engagement, however, Avigdor begs his dear friend “Anshel” to marry Hadass in his place. For how much longer can Yentl keep up her deception? Winning one Oscar (Best Original Song Score) and nominated for four others, YENTL boasts a ravishing score and a spectacular star performance from STREISAND. Unmissable. Please note, this DVD is Region 2 ( Europe, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East including Egypt). If you are outside Europe, please ensure your DVD player will play PAL / Region 2.
